a day in the life | december edition

Last month, I started up a blog circle with some pretty terrific women photographers. The aim of the project was simple; one day a month capture a slice of your daily life and celebrate the beauty in the everyday. We called it "a day in the life". What I didn't realize at the time was that through this project I would also be making some of the most amazing friends a girl could ask for. 7 women from completely different backgrounds and parts of the country who, through our passion for photographic storytelling, have found common ground and formed wonderful friendships. That's what I've come to love most about this project. In case you missed last month's inaugural post, you can check it out here. She is an incredible photographer (and happens to live in a winter wonderland)! You won't be disappointed! This month I captured a somewhat ordinary day spent at the grocery store and picking out our second (yes, second) tree at the Christmas tree farm. Don't ask, long story... Somewhere between the grocery store and my one year old's epic meltdown I began to lose hope that my captures would be anything but ordinary. And then, for a few brief minutes, the sun peeked out and I was able to quickly snap some of my favorite images yet. So there you have it, a day in the life...

the 'b' family

What a sweet family this is, I was thrilled to share the afternoon with Bryn, John and their sweet baby boy, Jack. John was such a good sport and so excited to be home after having returned from his deployment the day before.I think it's fitting that this threesome chose to have their shoot in their home and out and about their neighborhood. Thanks so much for allowing me to capture your beautiful family.

I am so excited to blog this session for so many reasons. A couple of months ago I set out with my sister and her husband to capture some shots of the two of them. This session, to me, is a photographer's dream where everything comes together perfectly - the weather, the light, the location. Add to that that the people are so dear to my heart (and I was able to boss them around very freely!) and it amounts to my favorite session to date. These two are evidence that the photos you capture after your wedding can be just as special as those on your big day! Thank you, thank you.

One of the things I love most about this "job" is the variety of places you get to go and the people you get to meet. Every once in a while, you come across a client so incredibly kind, you feel as if you have been friends for years. After speaking to Tracy, I was so excited to capture this family. They really are as beautiful inside as they are out and I think it absolutely shows in their gallery. The love they have for each other is so genuine and sincere that it made my job of capturing that bond so very easy. When choosing a location for their shoot, they decided they wanted to spend the afternoon in their own neighborhood, as they had so many Friday  nights before. There is something special about capturing people in their element. I am a firm believer that these little everyday moments are the ones we'll want to remember. I had such a wonderful time spending an afternoon with sweet baby Henry and his parents. This is one of those "stop you in your tracks" beautiful families - I had so many favorites and I had such a hard time narrowing down the photos for this post, so get ready for a major overshare!
